A flashcard is a helpful and a very important tool for the classroom as it helps students to understand the meaning of some words, objects, numbers, and expressions through visuals. Sometimes the meaning of something can be difficult to be explained to some students as they don't have a physical example of the idea, flashcards are the key for understanding in this kind of situations.
Flashcards are materials full of advantages for both, teachers and students. Here we have a list of the advantages and disadvantages that a teacher may face while using flashcards with his students
ADVANTAGES:
· Useful with students of different ages.
·
They
are cheap.
·
Using
flashcards develops memorization of students
·
They
allow to relate words with images
·
You
can create your own flashcards according to the objectives of the lesson.
·
Recognized
as a fun and an effective way to learn.
·
Material
can be reusable.
·
There
are many online sites that support teaching where you can download flashcards
and print them to work in the classroom.
DISADVANTAGES
·
Sometimes
abstract terms may be difficult to be correctly added onto a flashcard.
·
They
are time consuming when you create your own.
·
If
the way they are used is not changed after several times it will be boring for
students.
Teachers should always
attempt to add flashcards when possible during a class as they engage students
to participate with a different material than the ones they usually use. We
need to point out that not all learners will react in the same way working with
flashcards, in order to have a meaningful learning using flashcards teachers
must pay attention to the different learning styles students have and using
different strategies which involve all students in a creative and useful way.About me
